It’s time to jazz things up in the wardrobe department! Spring’s imminent arrival will bring with it lighter evenings and new flowers and colours to enjoy. So it’s the perfect time to pack up the dark, block colours of your winter wardrobe and invest in some gorgeous bold prints. After all, the brighter seasons are all about colours and patterns.

Bold prints can work in any scenario, from casual weekends to workwear and even ladies formalwear and partywear. The key to success here is to pick the right bold print and accessorise accordingly.

We love, love and love this fabulous red Reversible Dress – in fact, it’s one of our stylist’s favourites. Here, you get two bold and beautiful prints for the price of one. This fabulous women’s dress reverses to give two distinct looks: one side has a crocodile print whilst the other side has a tribal print.

The Sateen Print Dress is another bold and beautiful favourite and effortlessly glam too – check out how our model teams it with big sunglasses for a dramatic look. Designed with a big flower motif and available in three colour combinations, this is another great day to night choice – in fact, you could even wear it to a super smart occasion when teamed with diamante-decorated stilettos and an up-do hairstyle. Be quick though – it’s on sale!

Naomi Campbell is to host two charity fashion shows in London and New York to raise money for the victims of recent earthquake in Haiti. The supermodel, who is better known for her fiery temper than for her philanthropy, has recruited celebrities to model various items of designer clothing at the events.

The first event is in New York on February 12th, as part of New York Fashion Week. The London event will take place later in the month, and will be part of London Fashion Week. What’s more, both events will be open to the general public. So, Kaleidoscope fashionistas, if you fancy an up close view of the latest trends in ladies designer clothes, shoes and bags, you’ll soon have the opportunity!

According to Ms. Campbell, who also organised a fashion show in 2007 to raise money after the UK floods, the world’s top fashion designers have been queuing up to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake. “Of all the American designers, nobody has said no,” said the supermodel. “They’re taking the time out of their schedules to be able to pick what they want to give and contribute. We are very, very grateful.”

Remember to keep your eyes peeled for when tickets for the London fashion show go on sale!

Fashion tips for tall ladies

Shift Dress

Shift Dress

Isn’t it wonderful to be tall and leggy? You get to look all Amazonian, just like a supermodel. Well, lots of tall women might disagree, because it can be difficult to find clothes to fit and suit the taller lady (although you’re sure to find something to suit on Kaleidoscope!).

We think that those of you who are lucky enough to be 5”8 and over should embrace your beautiful height. Here’s a few of our tips to maximising your loftiness and looking great whatever you wear.

Break it up: Whereas smaller women need to stick to one or two colours in their outfit to lengthen their figures, taller women don’t need this trick. This means you can break up your outfit with lots of patterns and colours, which will create lots of vibrancy and interest.

Flat fixation: Taller women have the luxury of wearing flats, even on special occasions – you don’t need to suffer in uncomfortable heels in order to look gorgeous. There are loads of fashionable flats out there, so start shopping in the knowledge that you can be comfy and stylish at the same time.

Dress up: Tall women who want to create a fuller bodyline should try smock or shift dresses. These can work really well for slim ladies over 5”8 who are worried they will look too gaunt in tighter, body-hugging clothes.

It’s curtains for all of us

Reversible Faux Silk Curtains

Reversible Faux Silk Curtains

In this cold weather, with the long winter nights still hanging over our heads, it’s likely that our curtains are going to spend most of their time firmly shut. That’s why it’s so important to have curtains that you love all over your house. You need something pretty to look at if it’s too dark to enjoy the view outside!

If your curtains are looking a bit tired, take a look at the Curtain and Blinds section of the Kaleidoscope website. Just like all our other products, our curtains are “Designed to be Different” and we can help you to dress your windows beautifully.

When choosing your new curtains, have a good look at the rest of the room and how it’s decorated before you buy anything. If the room in question is already full of furniture, pictures and other homeware, then you’ll want a quieter and more neutral pair of curtains to provide balance and calm things down. Equally, if your room lacks a little colour or vibrancy, then a boldly patterned pair of curtains can add some much needed liveliness.

Here’s a super Online Exclusive for you: Reversible Faux Silk Slotted Top Curtains. These are most dramatic and sophisticated. They feature a soft textured faux silk slot top and this is fully reversible so that you can create and change your look each season. Complete the look with their matching cushion cases – cleverly, the cushion cases are reversible as well!

Catch yourself a city break

Holiday Shop - Ombre Dress

Holiday Shop - Ombre Dress

Well, we’re only one month into the year, and most of us already need a break from the old routine! Who’d have thought that going to work or looking after the kids in this freezing weather would be so exhausting?

There’s no need to wait until the summer to get yourself some time away. In fact, a city break provides the perfect way to get a little holiday without spending too much money or indeed taking up too much of your annual leave. In fact, with some destinations such as Paris and Bruges so close to the UK, you might not need to take any time off of work at all: simply hop on the Eurostar after work on a Friday night and come home on Sunday night ready for the week ahead!

When thinking about which city to visit, first of all consider who you’re taking with you. If it’s a family trip, then you’ll want to visit a city with activities for kids of all ages. Copenhagen, in Denmark, has beer and castles for the grown-ups whist the oldest Legoland (just outside the city) in the world will amuse the children.

If you’re planning a romantic break, then of course Paris springs to mind – especially in springtime. It’s the city for lovers and the scene of many a tear-strewn proposal, especially at the top of the Eiffel Tower.

For a fun trip with friends or family, why not check out Barcelona? There are bars and fine restaurants aplenty as well as lots of gorgeous Gaudi architecture.

Winter warmth

Together Scoop Neck Cardigan

Together Scoop Neck Cardigan

Are you managing to keep warm this winter?

It’s been a real shocker so far, hasn’t it! All of that horrible snow and ice. Great for the children – all of those days off of school and snowmen to build – but rather rubbish for the rest of us.

It’s difficult to keep going when it’s so cold. That’s why it’s so important to make sure you have everything you need to keep warm and indeed safe (like not wearing stilettos in the snow and opting for wellies with a firm traction instead).

Start your search for toasty warm wardrobe essentials with a visit to our Essential Knitwear Shop. We particularly like this hidden gem – the Together Scoop Neck Cardigan. This scoop neck longer length cardigan has three-quarter length sleeves and useful pockets. It’s so important to layer up in the cold weather – layering keeps you warmer for longer – and this stylish cardigan makes you look great whilst you do that.

When it comes to wellies, you don’t have to sacrifice style for practicality. These Wedge Wellies are brilliant – but get them while they’re hot, because they’re on sale! They come in two designs – plain black and python. Both choices are great for fashionistas in the rain!

Apart from kitting yourself out with stylish winter gear, make sure you’ve stocked up on hot chocolate: it’s an unbeatable cure for a cold winter’s night!

Bedding down

Bedeck Adelina Bedspread

Bedeck Adelina Bedspread

With the nights as chilly as they are, it can be tricky to get into bed – the sheets are so cold, especially if you haven’t had the heating on much!

Apart from a hot water bottle and a nice warm partner to cuddle, there is another easy way to add a layer of warmth to your bedlinen. Here at Kaleidoscope.co.uk we have a gorgeous and snuggly collection of throws and bedspreads. Not only do they make great decoration and add that extra touch of style of your bedroom but they also keep you warm when you sleep under them. Imagine – a duvet plus a throw – toasty!

Have a look at this Bedeck Adelina Bedspread first of all. Available in single, double and king size, it has a fashionable and colourful pattern which will add warm tones to your bedroom as well as being actually warm itself. In a comfy polyester and cotton mix, it’s already attracted an impressive five star rating.

The Amber Bed Throw is a delicately beautiful addition to any bedroom. It has an exquisite floral jacquard design in a subtle shade of duck egg blue. In fact, Shoppaholic from Milton Keynes hits the nail on the head when she says: “It is a nice colour and matches my blue bedroom it is a warm cover, nice and cosy for the cold nights.” Nice and cosy! That’s what we like to hear.
